Channel 4’s First Dates show has become a hit with viewers, and the great news is, that those looking to enjoy a slice of the action can also dine at the restaurant where the show is filmed.
Where to find the restaurant
According to The Sun, First Dates is filmed at the very swanky Paternoster Chop House in central London, next to St Paul’s Cathedral at 1 Warwick Court, Paternoster Square.
What’s on the menu?
With the word ‘chop’ in the restaurant’s title, you’d be right to assume that the menu is big on meaty dishes. Steak features highly, but carnivore lovers looking for something different might wish to try the specials, such as marrow crostini or veal faggots.
What you can expect to pay
You’ll pay between £6-£11 for a starter at Paternoster Chop House, with mains ranging between £17 and £30. For those on a budget, the £20 set menu is the one to choose. If you want to enjoy the famous cocktails that First Daters are commonly seen sipping on TV, they’re £10 a go.
Glimpsing our favourite maître d’
The appeal of First Dates is boosted by the appearance of Fred, the restaurant’s characterful maître d’, who is always on hand to offer his advice on affairs of the heart. If you were hoping to catch a glimpse of Fred on a visit to Paternoster Chop House, sadly, you won’t see him at the front of house. Neither is he out the back stacking dishes in commercial warewashers, such as those from https://www.247cateringsupplies.co.uk/bar-supplies/commercial-warewashers.
In fact, you’ll only find Fred on the premises during filming. He actually works as general manager across town in Mayfair, at the very upmarket Galvin at Windows. This Michelin-starred eatery can be found on the 28th floor of the plush London Hilton on Park Lane.
With Fred not actually a genuine member of staff at Paternoster Chop House, does this also mean that other workers there aren’t the real deal? In fact, some of the waiting staff you see on the TV show do actually work at the eatery, but other employees have other day jobs, including working as an actress, model/actor and dancer, mixologist and landlord.
If you want to eat at Paternoster Chop House, it’s advisable to book well in advance, as the restaurant is closed during filming.
